Disguising a Goodwill Find!

I keep promising to share the ways I incorporate my thrift store treasures into our home.
I realized that I have not been doing this often enough!
It is time to fix that...so here is an example.

Take a look at this butt ugly end table!

Found this at Goodwill a couple of years ago,
Cost-probably $5 or I wouldn't have bought it.

Seems like there are lots of these 1970's end tables donated to thrift stores.
Don't let the missing hardware and cheapo Formica top scare you.

You can simply hide the ugliness with a little fabric disguise! Read on to see how!

Last week my daughter scored this great mid-century modern end table at Goodwill for 4.99....l

With a little clean-up and some tightening of the legs, she can put it right in her living room.
Happy accidents like that are pretty rare!

That wouldn't work with my table.
I needed to totally hide it!
So that is exactly what I did....

My inspiration

I had a yard and a half of this gorgeous piece of fabric.
I made a round table cover out of it!
Since I did this several months ago (BB Before Blog)
I don't have my own tutorial to show you how to make a round tablecloth....

My Master Bedroom Bedside Table

Forgive the photo....and the mess....I didn't know I was inviting you into the bedroom!

Notice how the bottom of the cloth flares out....there is a trick to that...

Just stuff an old comforter underneath and pull it around until you like the way the bottom looks.  If your cloth is long enough, you can even tuck it around some old books to keep it in place.
Not pretty, but effective!
My table has one last little secret.... Hidden Storage....another bonus!
You have probably seen those inexpensive fiberboard or cardboard tables at Target or other discount stores....they aren't really big enough to for all my bedside junk....this is so much better.
This table has moved around the house in a lot of places:
An entryway table
The table to hold the tabletop Christmas table
A desert table in the dining room for a party
An endtable in the living room
Who knows where it will end up (pun intended) next!
So if you don't have a round table somewhere in your house....keep your eyes open at garage sales or thrift stores.  You could hide one too!

I never give those thrift store tables a second glance. You " furnture re-makers" are so cool! I can take a cowboy boot and sew it into a wallet, but I have no vision whe it comes to home decor. Your bedside table is devine!

I love this kind of find. I do the same thing.....hide it's true ugliness! You turned this into a beautiful side table for your bedrm! Great job! And the little trick about putting the comforter under is fantastic! I will be featuring this post of this week's Thrifty Things Friday party! I hope to see you at the party this week!

What a great DIY, and you're a clever one with the comforter under there! That mid-century modern table is a great find for $5! Thanks for linking up with Eat, Grow, Sew!

Thanks for the tip with the comforter! It was exactly the fix I was looking for, as everyone stubbed their toes on the bricks I used. Thanks for sharing!
