Goodwill Hunting-oops I mean Gathering!

Men Hunt

Poor Bambi was at the mercy of my hubby this past weekend....
That always makes me kind of sad....
So what to do?
Go Gathering!
I spent the good part of Saturday shopping (gathering) with my daughter.
We started at the Mall...some errands and a lot of moaning about the outrageous prices of everything!
We finished at Goodwill.....where we made a haul!
One of the best scores was this Grapevine wreath with about 10 sprays of dollar store artificial leaves--- $6.99

I have been looking for a way to transition the deck and front entry from Halloween to Thanksgiving.
The mums have turned ugly and brown.....it was looking pretty sad!
The short time until I put out the Holiday Greens means that I REFUSE to spend any money on this!

Now I just needed to make the dollar store leaves look a little more like the expensive ones from TonkaDale....

Remember the post where I talked about how I painted the "too bright" artificial bittersweet?
Well I decided to do this paint trick on the ungodly gaudy dollar store leaves....

That worked nicely and since there were 20 mile an hour winds outside....I didn't even have to wait for them to dry...(patience has NEVER been a strong suit for me)

I put a pot full of dirt in the middle of the basket, stuck the leaves in with some dried artemesia that I begged from my daughter....filled in the empty space with some spanish moss...added the pumpkins....DONE!

Well NOT Done....I still had the front steps to do....
Painting all those leaves with a paint brush was kind of a pain....
hmmmmm
What if I used a spray bottle......

 Messy but effective.

I am amazed at how realistice they look with the"glow" softened a bit!

Got those suckers done in short order.....

The wind was still blowing so they went out to the front to add just the right touch of color to the existing pots.

What else we gathered!
  • 4 children's books
  • A journal monogrammed with the letter M
  • A pale green cashmere sweater
  • An Ivory Geiger Jacket
  • A plaid double breasted Ralph Lauren Blazer
  • A pair of dress pants
  • A little girl's GAP jeans jumper
Alas the hunter returned empty handed....but he has a couple more weekends to try again...
Oh my....I have lots of gathering to do to keep things fair!

I'm with you- It's an odd time between Halloween and Christmas. I found the most wonderful turkey PAINTING last year at GW for about $3.00. Amazing what we can find on the "hunt", isn't it? Your Fall touches look great. You are a lot like me with that spray thing...yeah...who else would do THAT? (me) xo Diana
